Police in robbery and road collision appeal

Detectives at Musgrave Street are continuing to appeal for information following an armed robbery and road traffic collision at Finaghy crossroads on the outskirts of Belfast on Saturday morning.

Police were called shortly before 10.30am after armed robbers targeted a cash delivery vehicle outside a supermarket on Finaghy Road South.

A cashbox was taken from a delivery driver at gunpoint by three men who then made off in a white Mazda 626 (car registration VXI 1971) which they later abandoned in Orpen Park.

The men were then seen getting in to a silver Citroen AX (car registration CAZ 2474) which was seen heading up Orpen Park onto the Lisburn Road.

A road traffic collision then occurred at Finaghy Road crossroads involving the Citroen AX car and two other vehicles. There were no reports of any serious injuries.

The occupants of the Citroen abandoned the vehicle and were seen running from it down Finaghy Road North into Diamond Gardens.

The two vehicles used by the suspects have been recovered by police for further examination. A cashbox, which contained a substantial sum of money and a firearm, was also recovered.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the armed robbery or the road traffic collision to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
