Shorts to axe 560 jobs by next July
Belfast aerospace company Shorts have today confirmed that 560 jobs are to be axed over the next year.
In a statement from parent company Bombardier Aerospace, management said the first wave of job cuts will take place next January - with more to follow in July.
The company also warned that a further 330 jobs could go if one if its largest customers, Delta, did not take delivery of aircraft it has ordered.
"We deeply regret the impact this will have on our valued employees and their families,” the statement read.
“We will be working closely with our Trade Unions during the 90-day consultation period to discuss if there is any potential to try to mitigate the number of job losses.
“Our employees will be treated fairly and with respect, and we are committed to providing them with the appropriate support during this difficult period.
"Today's announcement is due to market forces outside of the company's control, following Bombardier's lengthy consultations with airline customers, some of whom face severe financial challenges."
As well as cuts in Belfast, Bombardier Aerospace also announced job losses at its factory in Montreal.

Redundancies At Shorts To Take Effect
Redundancies at Belfast aerospace firm Shorts are due to take place within the next few days. Parent company Bombardier announced in October it was cutting up to 645 jobs at the plant. Management had entered into a 90-day consultation period with trade union officials and now that is ending.

Bombardier confirm 1,200 Belfast jobs under threat
Bombardier Aerospace in Belfast has confirmed that up to 1,180 jobs are at risk over the next 12 months. The move is part of an overall restructuring of the company with a further 1,800 jobs under threat at its plants in Montreal and Toronto in Canada.
