Two pensioners targeted in separate robberies

Two elderly women are recovering today after separate robbery attacks in counties Down and Antrim at the weekend.

In the first incident in Co Down, a woman in her eighties was awoken at around 4am on Saturday to find a masked man, armed with a knife, in the bedroom of her Donaghadee home.

The man, who is not thought to have been alone, held the woman hostage for three hours before leaving with jewellery and a sum of cash.

The woman is suffering from shock over the ordeal but was otherwise uninjured.

Meanwhile, a 71-year-old woman was threatened with a screwdriver at her home in Carnmoney on the outskirts of Belfast at around 9pm on Saturday.

The pensioner had gone out her backdoor when a man emerged from the bushes and grabbed her.

He then forced her inside the house before stealing two of her handbags which contained a small sum of money and personal documents.

The woman suffered bruising to her left arm and is recovering from shock following the incident.
