Assets Recovery Agency freezes NI companies' assets

The Assets Recovery Agency has frozen more than £300,000 worth of assets from three registered Northern Ireland companies, and others in England and Spain.

The agency also secured High Court orders against three members of one family from the Carrickfergus area named as Albert, Jessica and Paul Baxter.

The specifics of the case saw premises in the Carrickfergus area searched on Thursday under search and seizure warrants granted by the High Court. Immediately after these searches an Interim Receiver appointed to act on behalf of the High Court took control of:
  • four limited companies three registered in Northern Ireland - Kanash Ltd; Global Christmas Ltd; and Cedar Hill Trading Ltd; and one registered in Leeds - Global Fireworks Ltd
  • an apartment and a house in the Carrickfergus area
  • three luxury BMW cars
  • a business in the Canary Islands.
Commenting on the case, Security Minister Ian Pearson said: “I congratulate the agency on further disrupting organised criminal activity, not only in Northern Ireland but across Europe and beyond.

“The international dimension of this case sends out the clearest message to those who feed off the entire community in Northern Ireland that no matter where they attempt to hide their ill-gotten gains the Assets Recovery Agency will find them.

“In the last month the Agency has recovered or frozen almost £2 million worth of assets through three separate investigations and I congratulate Jane Earl, Director, Alan McQuillan, Assistant Director, and all the staff of the Belfast Office for striking another blow against organised criminals in Northern Ireland.”
