Policeman injured in hit-and-run accident

A policeman is being treated in hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Co Armagh on Friday.

The incident occurred shortly after lunchtime when a car sped through a checkpoint on Concession Road, Crossmaglen and hit the officer.

The vehicle, a blue Peugeot 406 with a Republic of Ireland registration, was discovered abandoned further along the road a short time afterwards.

It is believed the driver of the vehicle then made off in an Isuzu Trooper which was stolen a short time after the accident.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have saw the jeep to contact them.
