Firefighters rescue wheelchair-bound woman from fire
Firefighters have rescued a wheelchair-bound woman from a blaze in west Belfast early this morning.
The incident occurred after a fire began in sheltered housing in the Whiterock Road area at about 7am on Wednesday.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus had to break a window to get into the 48-year-old woman's ground-floor flat where they found her slumped unconscious in the hallway.
She was revived using oxygen and was immediately taken to hospital where her condition is said to be “serious”.
Other residents of Daisy Hill Court were alerted by the fire alarm going off but no one else was injured in the incident which is being investigated.
Elsewhere in Belfast, a female bus driver has been attacked in the north of the city.
The woman's hand was cut during the attack which occurred when she stopped her Citybus on the Antrim road on Tuesday night and two youths jumped on and smashed a glass screen before running away.
A spokesperson for Translink condemned the attack, saying they would do all they could to help police catch those behind the attack.
Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 028 9065 0222.
