Police launch murder inquiry in Dungannon

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death in Co Tyrone at the weekend.

The 23-year-old, who is thought to have been of eastern European origin, was found behind a house at Willow Gardens, Dungannon, at around 4am on Sunday. He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Police said they believe the killing was the result of a domestic dispute, and have appealed for information.

Elsewhere at the weekend, a student from France has been attacked by a robber armed with a blow torch in north Belfast.

The incident occurred as the student and two friends walked along the Oldpark Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 2.45am they were confronted by a man with a lit blow torch and an iron bar who punched the student before stealing his money. The victim’s friends were able to escape the attacker who then made off in the direction of the Crumlin Road.
