Department of Health launch 'safe parenting' guide
The Department of Health has launched a new Safe Parenting Handbook which aims to provide advice for parents on a range of issues.
The ‘Safe Parenting Handbook’, which will offer guidance on Babysitting, Bullying, Don’t Shake the Baby, Healthy Eating and Positive Parenting, is targeted at new and existing parents on a range of subjects relating to children of all ages.
Launching the guidance, Health Minister Angela Smith said: “From time to time, parents and families experience difficulties which place them under even more pressure.
“This handbook offers practical information and guidance on how to deal with particular issues, from babysitting to drug and alcohol misuse. It also contains details of other useful publications and contact telephone numbers for parents.
Anyone wishing to obtain a copy of the Handbook can do so by downloading from the DHSSPS website at www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/foi/Prof_advice.asp or by contacting the social services department of their local Health and Social Services Trust.
The guide has been published in conjunction with the Area Child Protection Committees of the four Health and Social Services Boards, with input from the larger voluntary sector organisations.

Infrastructure Minister Meets With NI Mental Health Champion
