Police in Londonderry abduction appeal

Police are appealing for information following the abduction of a woman in Londonderry on Friday.

The 23-year-old woman, who was dressed in red tracksuit bottoms and a grey zip up tracksuit top, was confronted by up to four men – one who was armed with a knife – after she answered a knock to her front door at Sandale Park shortly after 9.15pm.

The men then entered the house and threatened the young woman before forcing her to leave her home and get into a stolen silver Rover MG ZR car.

The victim was then driven to Grainne’s Gap near Muff in Co Donegal where her abductors got out and left her, ordering her to remain in the Rover car.

The woman eventually made her way out onto the main road after dawn where she was picked up by a passing motorist who took her to the border where she was met by a friend at around 7am. The car was then recovered by officers from An Garda Síochána.

Detectives in Londonderry who are investigating the incident have appealed for anyone who witnessed the young woman being taken from her home or who has information on the movements of the silver Rover used to contact them.

Anyone who saw a silver Rover at Grainne’s Gap or witnessed the abductors leaving the area possibly in another vehicle is urged to come forward.

Police also wish to speak to the motorist who picked up the young woman in Co Donegal.

Detectives can be contacted on 028 7136 7337 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
