Dog hanging ‘an absolute act of cruelty’
A SDLP councillor in Londonderry has described the apparent hanging of a dog from a fence as “an absolute act of cruelty” after the animal was discovered on Monday morning.
The dead pet terrier was found in the Altcar Park area of Galliagh at around 7am by a passer by.
Local SDLP councillor Sean Gallagher expressed his disgust at those behind the attack. "It's an absolute act of cruelty and it makes you wonder what sort of mindset is involved,” he said.
"It's happened before, unfortunately, and that's the difficulty I had with it.”
A post mortem examination is to be carried out to establish the cause of death. An owner for the dog has yet to come forward.

Hero Army Dog Handlers Honoured
Murdered soldiers who worked with specialist 'sniffer' dogs during the Northern Ireland Troubles have been remembered. The 'Red Paw' and its work across Northern Ireland was the subject of a special memorial service held in England at the weekend. It was in honour of the six dog handlers and two sniffer dogs killed in Northern Ireland.

USPCA condemns bonfire dog death
The USPCA has condemned an incident in which a dog was tied up on a Hallowe’en bonfire and burned to death, describing it as a “mindless act of cruelty”. The incident happened in the Glebe area of Sion Mills on Sunday night as local people celebrated the annual festivity in the Co Tyrone town.
