Man appears in court following fatal stabbing

A man has appeared in court today charged with the murder of another man over the Easter period.

Brendan John Joseph Rice, 22, from St Agnes Drive, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with the murder of Ciaran Irvine, also 22.

Mr Irvine was stabbed during a row at Juniper Park in the Twinbrook area in the early hours of Monday morning. He was taken to hospital following the attack, but died a short time later.

The court heard on Wednesday how the accused went to police hours after the incident and had repeatedly expressed remorse.

A detective sergeant said that when charged the defendant said: "I'm just awfully sorry."

Remanded in custody, Mr Rice will appear via video link on 26 April.
