World record holder to run Belfast marathon

The man who holds the world record for the most marathons ever run is on his way to Northern Ireland for this year’s Belfast Marathon.

Horst Preisler, (69) from Hamburg in Germany who has run 1,316 marathons, a staggering 34,479 miles, will be in Belfast for this year’s City Marathon on Monday May 2.

“I am extremely excited about participating in the Belfast City Marathon, it will be my first time in Belfast and I have heard great reports about the event,” said Horst, who runs between 60 – 80 marathons a year.

Belfast City Marathon co-ordinator Seamus Rooney added: “ It’s already a truly exciting year for Belfast City Marathon as we have a new, flatter and faster course, but to also have a World Record Holder is a great addition and will help to boost the profile of Belfast world wide.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement to have run so many races and I am delighted he’s finally put the Belfast Marathon on the list.”

Entries for the marathon can still be made by logging onto www.belfastcitymarathon.com or by visiting the Ormeau Tennis Centre between Friday April 29 and Sunday May 1, where you will be able to enter and receive your race pack at the same time.
