Father appeals for information following son’s shooting
The father of a five-year-old boy shot in his school playground in Co Fermanagh has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Gerald Somers said he was “delighted” with the progress his son Darragh had shown since he was accidentally shot in the playground of Mullinaskea Primary School in Fermanagh on April 22.
Speaking on Monday for the first time since he has left his son's hospital bedside, Mr Somers said: “I'm here today to see if I can get across the message to anyone out there who has any information whatsoever, may it be small, insignificant, or whatever, to come forward."
Police said they believed last month’s incident was an accident and that Darragh was hit by someone shooting in nearby fields.
Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Kyle, who is heading the investigation, said he was certain whoever fired the shot knew what had happened.
"It's not too late for that person to come forward,” he said.
"There must be tremendous pressure on their shoulders. They will have to live with this for the rest of their life."
Darragh is currently being treated in a surgical ward at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children after being moved out of intensive care last week.
