Isle of Man driving disqualifications to extend to NI

Driving disqualifications in the Isle of Man will apply in Northern Ireland and Great Britain from next week, it was revealed today.

Mutual Recognition of driving disqualifications between Northern Ireland and Great Britain came into force on 11 October 2004 and from 23 May this will be extended to include the Isle of Man.

“It means that if a driver receives a disqualification in Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man, it will apply in all three jurisdictions for the period of the disqualification,” said Brendan Magee, Chief Executive of DOE Driver and Vehicle Licensing (DVLNI).

Mutual Recognition is only in relation to driving disqualifications and

allows Northern Ireland drivers access to the fixed penalty system in Great Britain and vice versa for drivers from Britain.
