Antrim hurlers aching after New York success
Antrim hurlers are paying the price for their hard-earned Ulster SHC semi-final success against New York.
After a bruising game, Antrim players have many war wounds to parade, notably vital marksman Karl McKeegan.
He only appeared in extra-time to help out his faltering colleagues, with a tally of 1-2 justifying his introduction. But McKeegan, who had broken his thumb in the drawn NHL relegation tussle against Laois on April 10, suffered badly in Gaelic Park.
He aggravated the injury to the extent that he has a suspected damaged tendon in his thumb. His participation against Down or Derry in the provincial decider is now in severe doubt.
Like McKeegan, Paddy Richmond broke his finger in the Laois game and appeared against New York in extra-time, when he scored two points. He came through his brief appearance without any problems.
Ciaran Kelly is expected to be fit again for the Ulster final, though Martin Scullion had to have six stitches applied to his knee after the win over the Big Apple.
