Petrol bomb attacks may be linked

Police say they believe that two separate petrol bomb attacks in Coleraine on Monday night may be linked.

Shortly before midnight police and fire crews were called to a property at Blackthorn Court in the Harpur’s Hill area of the town and discovered a device had been thrown at a car. Scorch damage was caused to the rear of the vehicle.

A few minutes’ later police were alerted to a similar incident at nearby Quickthorn Place. The householder heard a loud bang which was later discovered to have been a bottle filled with a flammable substance that had been thrown at the property but had failed to ignite.

Ulster Unionist assembly member David McClarty described the two incidents as “despicable”.

“This type of behaviour has no place in normal society where people have the right to live their lives in peace,” Mr McClarty said.

“I would call on those responsible to end from this dangerous and potentially lethal activity.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 028 7034 4122 or Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
