Gunshot victim still in a critical condition

The 26-year-old man who was found with a gunshot wound to his chest at a graveyard in Co Down on Monday remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The victim was dragged into Redburn Cemetery in Holywood by four men before being shot in the early hours of the morning. A local resident raised the alarm at around 2.30am after hearing a gunshot followed by cries for help.

Police said they were treating the incident as attempted murder after the man was able to tell officers he had been abducted from a nearby petrol station.

Paramilitary involvement in the shooting is one line of inquiry currently being investigated by police.

Detectives have also been carrying out door-to-door enquiries on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
