Coastguard hits out at hoax caller
Belfast Coastguard has hit out at a hoax caller after a major search and rescue was launched following a phone call which indicated a man had walked into the sea at Larne Lough.
The Coastguard received the '999' call at around 12.35am on Tuesday, and rescue teams from Larne and Portmuck were immediately sent to the area to conduct a shoreline search. A Royal Navy Rescue helicopter was also dispatched from Prestwick however no one was found.
Liam Colquhoun, from Belfast Coastguard, said: "This is an unfortunate incident which has tied units up when they may have been required elsewhere and ultimately puts lives at risk."

Two Teens Rescued From Rocks In Co Down
Two teenage girls have been rescued after being trapped on rocks in Bangor, Co Down. It is believed they had been stuck on the rocks for a number of hours. Man Dies After Portstewart Harbour Fall
A man who died on Tuesday evening after falling into the sea near Portstewart harbour in L'Derry has been named as Stanley Duncan, chief executive of the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Northern Ireland. Mr Duncan is reported to have been fishing close to the shore at Victoria Terrace before 17:00 when the incident occurred.

Climber killed by lightning strike
A man who was found dead on the top of a County Down mountain at the weekend may have been struck by lightning. The man's body was found on Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains just before 2pm on Saturday by a group of walkers.

Security Alert Finds Nothing At MLA's Home
A security alert at the North Antrim home of Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has ended without incident. Police were called to the home following a report that a bomb had been left at the house. It is understood an anonymous caller telephoned the MLA's office in Dunloy claiming that an explosive device had been planted.

Army Remove Device In Banbridge GAA Alert
A 'viable' pipe bomb has been found at a GAA ground in County Down. The bomb was found during an overnight alert at the ground on the Ballela Road outside Banbridge. Police have since described the device as "viable" and it has now been removed by the Army Technical Officers.
