Man assaulted by masked gang in Londonderry

Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted at a house in Londonderry on Thursday.

Six masked men forced their way into the house at Inishowen Gardens in the Creggan area at about 10.30pm and singled out the man before assaulting him with crowbars, nail-studded pickaxe handles and hammers.

The victim is believed to have suffered a broken arm and leg, puncture wounds and cuts and bruises to his body.

Natasha McShane's Attacker Jailed
A 35-year-old man who brutally assaulted Irish student Natasha McShane with a baseball bat in Chicago has been jailed for 90 years. Heriberto Viramontes was sentenced at the city's Cook County Court and was convicted last October.
