Elderly woman robbed in north Belfast

An elderly woman has been robbed by a bogus caller at her home in north Belfast.

The caller, posing as a salesman, forced his way into the 86-year-old’s home in Sackville Court on Wednesday and asked her for money for a jumper.

When she handed it over and proceeded to make him a cup of tea, he stole a substantial amount of money from her purse before fleeing.

The man is described as being of swarthy appearance with a goatee beard and wearing a dark suit and white shirt.

Earlier this month, police in North Belfast issued a warning to elderly people to be on the alert for bogus callers after a couple in their 90s was swindled out of a sum of money.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
