New website to lure anglers to the bank

Anyone with an interest in fishing can now go on line to learn more about what Northern Ireland offers the angler.

A new fisheries website, www.dcal-fishingni.gov.uk, has been launched by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure to provide anglers with detailed information on its Public Angling Estate, the type of angling available and how to get there.

It contains current developments and news features, and will enable anglers, tourists and others to comment on any aspect of the Angling Estate in Northern Ireland, register competition results, advertise their own competitions and view publications such as the Guide/Map to angling on Lower Lough Erne and Annual Reports on Inland Fisheries.

Other features included are an educational page giving information on catch and release, the life cycle of salmon and trout and the background to sporting and fishing rights in Northern Ireland. Anglers will also be able to submit photographs of the "one that didn’t get away" to a photo gallery.

The site has information on the types of permits and licences available and an on-line permit purchasing facility is currently being developed. This will enable anglers and tourists to purchase permits to fish the Estate and day tickets for the River Bush special salmon beats. It is hoped to have this payment facility available in August.
