Victim shot in Shankill Road area

A man has been treated in hospital following a paramilitary style shooting in west Belfast at the weekend.

The victim, who is thought to be in his 40s, suffered a single gunshot wound to the right leg when he was attacked in the Shankill Road area at around 8pm on Sunday. He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Elsewhere, a woman in her 30s has suffered injuries to her face and neck during an assault in Banbridge, Co Down. The attack occurred in Church Square at around 2.30am on Sunday.

One man was arrested in connection with the incident in Banbridge but has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police in Banbridge have appealed for anyone with information concerning the attack in Church Square to contact detectives on 028 4066 2222.
