Arts Council announces £1.6m lottery funding

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has announced funding of £1.6 million through its National Lottery Fund to develop and support the arts across the province.

Roisín McDonough , Arts Council Chief Executive, said the principal aim of the Lottery Fund was to make a real and lasting difference through the arts to people’s lives right across Northern Ireland.

"We were very impressed with the high standard of applications this year and are confident that the awards will enable arts organisations to achieve exceptional standards of arts provision to all sections of our society," she said.

In all 71 organisations have received awards which will be delivered through three Lottery programmes targeting Access to the Arts, New Work, and Early Years.

The largest award of £135,000 goes to POBAL, the umbrella organisation for the Irish speaking community, to produce a ‘roadshow’ showcase of the arts in Irish across Northern Ireland over a three year period.

Further Arts Cuts In Latest Funding Allocation
The Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI) has announced annual funding of £13,109,178 for 100 key arts organisations from its exchequer and National Lottery resources. Government funds of £8,573,382 maintain the core costs of 100 arts organisations while £4,535,796 of National Lottery funding supports their programming costs.

Crescent Arts Centre Restoration Complete
The newly refurbished Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast has been re-opened, following an 18-month restoration project. The £7.2m scheme involved a refurbishment and restoration, which has preserved the exterior façade of the Grade II listed building. The refurbished centre includes an extension that increases the accommodation by approximately 900m2.
