Elderly man arrested in connection with playground shooting

A 70-year-old man has been arrested in connection with what is thought to be the acccidental shooting of a five-year-old boy in his school playground in April.

Darragh Somers was in the playground at Mullinaskea Primary School, which is situated between Enniskillen and Tempo, with around 180 other pupils when he was struck in the head with what is believed to have been a stray bullet.

He spent more than two months in hospital after he was shot in the head by a bullet from a .22 rifle.

He eventually returned to his home near Enniskillen after what doctors said was a miraculous recovery.

Today's arrest comes after more than 50 weapons were seized and checked as part of the police investigation into the shooting.
