Attack on Limavady primary school condemned

Education Minister Angela Smith has condemned an arson attack on Roe Valley Integrated Primary School, Limavady, Co Londonderry.

The Minister said: “This attack is completely unacceptable and without justification.

"Attacks like this strike at the core of the education system and at the core of our community, affecting our children, parents and teachers alike.

"The school’s Principal and staff should be commended for the quick action taken to keep classes running and the efforts made to restore normal schooling as quickly as possible.”

The blaze was discovered in a classroom used as the assembly hall at the school at around 6.40pm on Sunday.

Although the room was destroyed in the fire, the school's head teacher said teaching would not be disrupted and that alternative arrangements were in place for classes.
