Police issue counterfeit banknotes warning
Police are urging traders to be on the alert following reports that a small number of counterfeit banknotes have been passed recently at retail outlets in north Antrim.
The amount is negligible in comparison with the genuine notes that are properly in circulation, however Constable Don Mitchell, the PSNI’s Crime Prevention Officer for the area, said checkout staff should always take the time to check each banknote tendered as payment for goods.
"If concerned that a bank note is counterfeit, they should retain the note, write down the description of the person passing it, where possible the registration number of any vehicles used and should contact their local police immediately," Constable Mitchell added.
Anyone who has any information regarding the supply or use of counterfeit banknotes is asked to contact police in Ballycastle on 028 2076 2312, or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555111.
