Two men injured in paramilitary-style shootings

Detectives in Newtownards are investigating two separate paramilitary-style shooting incidents in Co Down on Thursday.

In the first incident, a 33-year-old man was stopped by two masked men and shot in the lower left leg while running in the vicinity of Canal Row, Newtownards, shortly before 8.15pm.

His attackers were both between 5ft 11 and 6ft tall of heavy build and dressed in dark coloured clothing. They are believed to have headed off after the attack towards Comber Road.

In the second incident, a 30-year-old man suffered one gun shot wound to his left leg and was struck on the head during a shooting incident that occurred at Rectory Park, Kircubben. This incident was reported to police just after 10pm.

In both cases, the victims were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

An elderly man has been left in critical condition after his bicycle was involved in a collision with a tractor in Brookeborough, County Fermanagh. Man Held Over Police Murder Bid In Belfast
A man has been arrested in County Fermanagh by detectives investigating the attempted murder of a police officer with an under-car bomb in east Belfast. The 38-year-old suspect was detained in Belleek on Wednesday morning, 11 September, by the PSNI's Terrorism Investigation Unit. He was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

Shots Fired At L'Derry Flat
Police in L'Derry are appealing for information following a shooting on Wednesday evening, 04 September. Shots were fired at the upstairs window of a flat in the Gallaigh Park area sometime between 10pm and 10.30pm. No one was inside the property at the time and there were no reports of any injuries.

Man Jailed For Rape & Sexual Assault
A 30-year-old man has been jailed after he was convicted of rape and two counts of sexual assault. The Lurgan man was sentenced to three years and nine months imprisonment on Tuesday 10 September at Craigavon Crown Court. Police have welcomed the sentencing and commended the female victim for pursuing her case.

Man Charged Over City Centre Stabbing
A man in his twenties has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at an office building in Belfast City Centre on Tuesday. The incident occurred at around 2pm in the Scottish Provident Buildings in Donegall Square West, adjacent to City Hall.
