Former S Club star to light up Belfast’s festive season

Sparkling Rachel Stevens is inviting everyone to “come and get it” when she lights up Belfast’s Christmas season next week.

The chart-topping singer will join the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Wallace Browne, to switch on the city’s Christmas lights next Tuesday evening (November 22).

The Lord Mayor formally announced details of this year’s ‘Celebrate Belfast’ Christmas programme as the Christmas tree – a 45-foot Sitka spruce from Killeter in County Tyrone – was manoeuvred into position outside the City Hall on Monday morning.

Headlining this year’s concert is the former S Clubber, now a solo superstar in her own right, who will be performing tracks from her new album, ‘Come And Get It’, which was released three weeks ago.

Guest compère for the evening is top television presenter Eamonn Holmes, who will be joined by the newly-reunited broadcast team of Ivan Martin and Richard Young, now back on the airwaves with Belfast’s newest radio station, U105, and characters from ‘Jack And The Beanstalk’, this year’s pantomime at the Belfast Waterfront Hall.

Also keeping the crowd entertained will be the Lightning Dance Company and 14-year old Jordana McMurray, winner of this year’s Fanta Academy of Performing Arts at the Waterfront Hall.

Children from Cranmore Integrated Primary School will serenade the crowds with a selection of Christmas favourites, while an abundance of street entertainers will amuse the crowd and add to the festive atmosphere.

From next Monday (November 21), local children will have a chance to make sure their lists get to Father Christmas in plenty of time for the big day, when Santa’s Postbox is opened in the grounds of City Hall. Every child who sends a letter will of course receive a personal response.
