Hospital rally attracts thousands

A protest in Omagh town centre called to support the retention of acute hospital services in the town has attracted thousands of people.

Shops and schools in the area have closed as the rally takes place.

Health Minister Shaun Woodward proposed earlier this year that acute services including surgery and accident and emergency would be withdrawn as Tyrone County Hospital is downgraded.

Services are to be provided by a new hospital in Enniskillen.
