Armed men rob security guard

Detectives in Newtownabbey are appealing for information following an armed robbery on Monday.

Shortly after 2pm, two men approached a security guard in the Mill Road area, threatened him with a handgun, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. It is believed that the robbers may have fled on foot in the direction of the nearby Bawnmore Estate.

One of the assailants has been described as being in his thirties, around 6’ tall, with dark hair. He was wearing a grey and beige coloured fleece and light coloured trousers and baseball cap.

Detectives also believe that the culprits may have used a green coloured Rover 800 car prior to the incident and are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen a similar car acting suspiciously in the area before 2pm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
