Man bailed over arson charges

Update: A 21-year-old man has appeared in Craigavon Magistrates court on Tuesday in relation to a number of alleged offences that occurred in County Armagh on New Year's day has been bailed at the High Court.

John Andrew McMaster pleaded not guilty when charged with arson with intent to endanger life, criminal damage and having a petrol bomb in suspicious circumstances. The charges relate to an attack on a house in Dollingstown on January 1.

Remanded in custody, Mr McMaster was freed on bail following a submission to the High Court on Wednesday.

Willie Frazer Arrested For Bail Breach
Prominent loyalist campaigner Willie Frazer has been arrested for breaching his bail conditions. The 52-year-old was arrested on Monday at about 19:30 in the Portadown area. He is expected to appear in court today. Bail conditions were imposed following charges linked to union flag protests earlier in the year.

NI water charges could be in doubt
Plans to introduce water charges to Northern Ireland in April next year could be in doubt due to a setback at Belfast's High Court earlier today. During the hearing, the General Consumer Council won a judicial review of the decision to bring in charges after it emerged that it had not been adequately consulted.

Suspect Bailed On GBH Charges
Charges of grievous bodily harm with intent have been heard in court today as a local beauty therapy student, Jamie Louise Ward, 25, of no fixed address, appeared before magistrates. She was released on bail despite a detective's opposition because of claims there may be reprisals in the area if the suspect was freed.

Murphy Bailed On Tax Charges
One of the border area's most high profile republicans has been in court today to face charges related to alleged tax fraud. Detectives from the Irish Republic's Criminal Assets Bureau arrested the alleged former IRA chief of staff Thomas "Slab" Murphy at his home.
