Police fire shot in County Tyrone

Police have opened fire after a car drove through a checkpoint in County Tyrone earlier today.

A shot was fired after two men, tried to knock an officer down in the St. Dympna's Road area of Dromore.

The car is then believed to have made a U-turn and rammed into the police car twice.

The men managed to escape, and the vehicle they were travelling in was later recovered.

There have been no reports of anyone having suffered a gunshot wound at this stage and the Police Ombudsman's Office has been informed about the incident.

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Two Men Convicted In Paramilitary Crime Task Force Investigation
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of two men at Laganside Crown Court for a number of offences, following a major investigation into the activities of the east Belfast UVF. James McGrogan, aged 37, and 32-year-old Christopher Cullen were both convicted on Thursday 18th April, for a number of drug-related offences.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Colin Horner Murder: Man Arrested
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Colin Horner. Mr Horner, 35, was fatally shot in front of his young son in a supermarket car park on Sunday, 28 May. The man was arrested in the Newtownards area on Friday, 16 June. He has been taken to Musgrave Police station for questioning.

Police Right To Authorise Damage To Vehicle Blocking Fire Engine
A claim that police failed to make reasonable efforts to avoid having to damage a parked car which was blocking a fire engine on its way to a blaze in Portrush over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend has been rejected by the Police Ombudsman.
