Asda To Create 7,000 Jobs Across The UK

Supermarket giant Asda has announced it is to create 7,000 jobs across the UK this year.

Asda plans to open 25 new stores as part of its expansion, and it has also been reported its new style Asda Essentials , a discount chain stocking 95 per cent of its own brands, will open in Northampton in March.

Judith McKenna, Asda's Chief Financial Officer, said: "Our 2006 store and investment programme further demonstrates our commitment to flexible formats, mixed use and re-generation schemes, enabling us to create an increasing number of jobs across the UK."

The group's first non-food store, Asda Living, is set to open in Glasgow in spring and an additional two clothing stores in Middlesborough and Southend will also open in 2006.
