Woman attacked in Portadown robbery

Detectives have appealed for information after a 19-year-old woman was attacked during a robbery in County Armagh.

The woman was walking along an alleyway near Corcrain Drive in the Portadown area at around 7.30pm when a man approached her from behind.

As the woman turned around, she was punched in the face and the man then proceeded to grab her handbag.

As she tried to hold onto the bag, she was punched again and fell to the ground.

The robber then made off in the direction of Ballybay Avenue with the black canvas bag, which contained a sum of cash and a number of personal items.

The attacker is described as being in his late twenties or early thirties, around 5' 8" in height and well built.

He is believed to have been wearing a dark-coloured monkey hat, a navy fleece with the collar turned up and blue jeans.

Police have appealed for anyone with any information on the attack to contact them at Strand town on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
