Eleven remanded in custody following bar raid
Following a raid on a Belfast bar last week, 11 men have been remanded in custody on charges relating to an illegal UDA/UFF paramilitary assembly.
Amid tight security at Belfast magistrate's Court, all were charged with setting up a meeting and seven were further charged with wearing clothes associated with the banned paramilitary group.
The 11 men, who were brought before the court one at a time, denied the charges. The magistrate had previously warned the packed courtroom that he would not tolerate any disruptions and would not hesitate to clear the courtroom.
The accused were remanded to appear via videolink on April 3.
Several of the men claimed that they did not have access to proper legal advice as police could not guarantee that the consultations would not be recorded.
Police raided the Alexander Bar on York Road in north Belfast on Thursday. Seven other people arrested have been released pending reports to the Public Prosecution Service.
