Arsonists attack Ballymurphy home

Police in west Belfast are appealing for information following an arson attack on a property in the Ballymurphy area last night.

The incident happened just before 10pm when arsonists set fire to the oil tanker of an unoccupied house on the Ballymurphy Road.

Neighbours managed to extinguish the blaze before fire services and police arrived at the scene.

It is understood that the former residents were forced to leave the property due to a number of previous attacks.

This is the latest in a spate of incidents in the Ballymurphy estate since father of six, Gerard Devlin was fatally stabbed as the result of an ongoing feud between two families.

Yesterday, a 17-year-old man was shot after an attempted abduction in the area.

It is understood that the victim, Wayne McComb, was targeted because he was a friend of the Devlin family.

Anyone with any information on last night's arson attack should contact police on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
