Man remanded in custody in connection with attack
A 23-year-old man has today been remanded in custody, following an assault in which a man lost both ears.
Michael Alex Doyle, 23, from New Barnsley Gardens in west Belfast, was accused of causing grievous bodily harm and trespassing.
The attack happened shortly after 9am yesterday when a man is believed to have entered a house in the New Barnsley Gardens area of the city and attacked a 35-year-old man who was inside the property.
It is understood that the attacker doused the victim in a flammable substance before biting off one his ears, slicing off the other and then stabbing him in the arm.
The victim is currently being treated in the plastic surgery unit at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald.
The defendant has been remanded in custody for one month.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
