Two teenagers arrested in connection with school fire
Two teenagers have been taken into police custody following a suspicious fire at a primary school in County Antrim.
The male and female youths were found in the area at around 1am, shortly after the blaze started, and are currently being held for questioning by officers.
Three classrooms at the Largymore Primary School in Lisburn, were badly damaged during the fire.
It is understood that thousands of pounds worth of toys, which had been bought after fund-raising by parents and teachers, were also destroyed in the fire.
School Principal, Harry Stewart, today said that the fire has been “devastating.”
Mr Stewart added that it had been the P1, P2 and P3 children who had been affected by the fire and that all of their play equipment had been destroyed.
Around 170 children attend the school.
The Fire and Rescue Service believe that the fire was started deliberately and have stated that it was fortunate that no one was killed or injured during the incident.
