British Airways halve ticket prices
British Airways has announced plans to reduce ticket prices for more than 65 destinations in Europe by as much as 50%.
One-way all-inclusive ticket prices will now start at £29.
All non-changeable economy tickets will also be scrapped with air travellers now being able to change their flights, no matter what they have paid for the ticket, up to midnight the day before departure.
The airline will also continue to serve complimentary food and drink, and provide free baggage check-in.
British Airways' Commercial Director, Martin George, said: “We operate in a very competitive market and are determined to be the first choice for air travellers, who want low prices, flexibility and a superb flying experience.
“We have slashed our one-way fares by up to 50% and will have over seven million plane seats a year, to more than 65 destinations, available at these new prices.
“This is not a short-term gimmick, but a long term commitment to our millions of customers to offer irresistible low fares every day of the year.”
BA said that its fares for one-way flights within the UK and Europe had now fallen by an average of 70% compared to 10 years ago.
The announcement came as BA announced that fuel surcharges on long-haul flights would be increased from £30 to £35 per one way ticket, because of increasing oil prices. However, the fuel surcharge for the airline's short-haul flights will remain at £8 for a one-way ticket and £16 for a return trip.
BA said that it expected high oil prices to increase its fuel by £600 million this year.

Halifax report continuing rise in house prices
House prices in the UK have risen by almost 17 per cent according to the latest survey figures released by the Halifax. The report, published on Thursday 7 March, has shown that in February, property prices rose by more than one-sixth on the same time a year earlier – representing the fastest annual rate of growth in 12 years.

Airline sector exhibits first signs of recovery in traffic
Tentative signs of recovery in the airline sector have been bolstered by British Airways’ decision to restore part of its transatlantic services. From April, BA is to reinstate its transatlantic Concorde flights during the week, which will see Heathrow-US air traffic levels back to normal after the events of September 11.

NI house prices amongst fastest growing in UK
House prices in Northern Ireland have been growing faster than anywhere else in the UK outside London and the Home Counties, according to business advisors PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). According to the latest issue of PwC’s ‘UK Economic Outlook’, London house prices rose by 250% since 1995, followed by the southeast of England and East Anglia.
