Lottery roadshow launches in Belfast
The Big Lottery Fund has taken to the road to launch a major multi-million pound funding scheme for some of Northern Ireland's most disadvantaged areas.
The biggest of the National Lottery Good Cause distributors kick-started a major roadshow in Belfast today to launch 'Reaching Communities Northern Ireland,' an £18 million programme that will support a wide range of projects that bring changes to people’s lives, creating stronger communities and improved local environments.
The open grant programme will provide up to five years funding for voluntary and community led projects and will help local people to achieve their full potential, and be able to get involved in community based activities.
Lottery grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 will be awarded to schemes which boost better and safer environments for people to live in and also help to improve a better mental and physical health within the areas.
The roadshow will also enable the Big Lottery Fund to reveal details of a range of of other grant programmes totalling more than £90 million, which are due to be launched in the autumn.
The roadshow will hit locations in Broughshane, Enniskillen, Cookstown, Downpatrick, Derry and Antrim during May offering people the chance to find out how to apply for lottery cash.
Breidge Gadd, Big Lottery Fund Northern Ireland Board Member, said: “The Big Lottery Fund is about to launch a raft of programmes which will benefit communities across Northern Ireland. Reaching Communities Northern Ireland is among the first to open for business and will support community-led projects and help those most in need. We want people to bring their ideas to us so they can use Lottery funding to bring real improvements to their communities.”
Ms Gadd continued: “We place high priority on reaching communities with information about how to access our grants. The roadshow will provide a unique opportunity for local people to discover how their local communities can access lottery funding.”
Since the first grant announcements in 1995, over £125 million lottery cash has been allocated to Northern Ireland communities through community-led, open grant programmes.

The decision by the UK Government follows strong representations by the Executive Ministers to ensure that those affected here are treated on the same basis as their counterparts elsewhere.

£15m To Improve NI 'Spaces And Places'
The Big Lottery Fund is to spend £15m on improving local spaces and places in Northern Ireland. The Space and Place programme, launched today, will aim to unite communities in Northern Ireland through improving the community environment, according to the Fund. The Fund is the largest distributor of National Lottery funding.

Ten projects across Northern Ireland will share in a £806,306 grants roll-out from the Fund’s Voluntary and Community Sector programme.
