Orange Order meets with Catholic Archbishop

Members of the Orange Order have today met with the head of the Catholic Church in an historic first meeting.

Senior members of the Orange Order including Grand Master Robert Saulters, Secretary Drew Nelson and William Logan, along with the Reverend Tom Greer of the Royal Black Institution, met with Archbishop Sean Brady in County Armagh.

It has been reported that during the meeting, representatives from the Loyal Order once again repeated their call for the abolition of the Parades Commission, which has the final ruling on contentious marches.

After the meeting, the Order said that the meeting was a "useful exchange of views" regarding the upcoming events over the next few months.

They added that the outcome of the meeting proved that all sides wished for the marching season to pass in an entirely peaceful manner.
