Funerals of road crash victims take place
The funerals of two young people who lost their lives in a road traffic collision in County Fermanagh at the weekend, have taken place.
Anita Swift, 16, and Jonathan McDonald, 21, both from Newtownbutler, were among four people who died in the crash, which happened close to Lisnaskea at around 3.30am on Sunday morning.
Both funerals were held just hours apart at St Mary's church in Newtownbutler and
hundreds of mourners lined the route of both processions.
Six people were in the car at the time of the crash, and police have revealed that the four victims were all back-seat passengers when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree on the Moorlough Road.
The two others who died are Danica Mary O'Rourke, 17, and Peter Leonard, 21, both from Lisnaskea. They are expected to be buried tomorrow.
The driver and front seat passenger managed to escape from the wreckage and were taken to the nearby Erne hospital in Enniskillen for treatment for their injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.
Yesterday, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed that a 19-year-old man who was arrested for questioning after the incident, was the driver of the car.
He was later released on police bail, pending further inquiries.
Yesterday, the victim's families appealed to young drivers to slow down and take care on the roads.
