Worker dies in Lurgan factory incident

A 26-year-old man has died following an incident at a County Armagh food plant.

It has been reported that the incident happened at around 7am today, when a night-shift worker was involved in an accident while operating machinery at the Avondale Foods factory in Lurgan.

Emergency services were called to the scene, however the man died from his injuries.

The victim is understood to have worked at the factory for almost ten-years.

The police and Health and Safety Executive are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesperson for Avondale Foods said that the he firm was "overwhelmed with the sadness of this loss" and added: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."

A fire at a former poultry factory in Ballymoney has been declared a major incident with more than 100 firefighters still at the scene. The fire was first reported at 4.45pm on Monday on the Ballymena Road. 15 pumping appliances and 10 specialist appliances attended the scene of the blaze.
