600 Jobs To Be Created In Londonderry
Around 600 jobs are to be created in Londonderry due to the opening of an Indian call centre over the next two years.
Last month, ICICI OneSource announced that it was to open a centre in Belfast employing 400 people, with a second set to open at a later date.
It was today announced that the location of the second would be in Derry.
ICICI OneSource handles calls and administration for clients in the financial services, telecommunications and health care sectors, and is one of the biggest in its field in India.
The call centre has been given government support by Invest NI, who have said that the two new facilities will create around £28 million worth of wages and salaries into the local economy by 2008.
Leslie Morrison, chief executive of the economic body supplying the funding, Invest Northern Ireland, said: "Invest NI is committed to helping ICIC OneSource fully develop its business potential in Northern Ireland and, with our support, the Belfast and Derry operations will deliver over £28 million of wages and salaries by 2008 into the local economy."
Matthew Vallance, MD of ICICI in Europe, said that the city of Derry has a lot to offer and added that they have been impressed with the quality of the workforce, the enthusiasm of the local community and the interest they have shown in our company.
He continued: "Our new Londonderry facility will provide us with a solid foundation to support our long-term growth plans."
It is thought the centre on Northland Road in the city will be operational by the end of the year.

FEXCO Jobs Announcement Welcomed
Fine Gael Kerry TD, Brendan Griffin, has welcomed the news that the Kerry-based company FEXCO is to create 25 new jobs at its facility in Caherciveen. The company made the announcement after it secured a new contract from Aer Lingus to provide call centre services to the airline.
