Appeal made for on-the-run murder suspect

Police have launched an appeal for help in locating a murder suspect who absconded last year after she was granted bail.

Sarah-Jane Delaney was arrested on March 21 2002 in connection with the murder of her boyfriend William Shaw. After the arrest, Delaney, who at the time was alcohol and drugs dependent, was granted bail and later absconded. After being rearrested Delaney failed to comply with bail conditions. Her bail was revoked and she absconded a second time. An arrest warrant in her name was issued on October 9 last year.

On March 18 2002, William Shaw was found dead after a house fire in Camden Street, Belfast. He was found to have suffered extensive head injuries.

Despite extensive police investigations, Sarah-Jane Delaney has not been traced and is still at large. The investigation is centred in Northern Ireland, but there is also a strong possibility that the suspect may be in the Greater Manchester area, where she spent part of her childhood. It is also possible that she may have made visits to the Irish Republic.

Delaney is 27 years old and when last seen had blonde hair. She is described as being approximately 5ft 2in tall and of medium build. She has burns scarring on her abdomen and speaks with a slight Manchester accent.

The Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the case, Will Kerr, said: “My team of detectives in Musgrave Street in Belfast are keen to speak to anyone who may know where Sarah-Jane Delaney is now, or who can help in tracing her.

Anyone with information should contact us immediately, either directly at Musgrave Street CID on 028 9065 0222 or using the Crimestoppers number 0800-555 111."
