Fire crews attacked at Derry fire

Firefighters in Londonderry have been attacked while tackling a fire in the city yesterday evening.

It has been reported that fire crews were attending the scene of a gorse fire at Earhart Park in the Shantallow area at around 10.30pm, when they came under attack.

It is understood that a number of youths hurled bottles and stones at firefighters as they tackled the blaze, however no one was injured during the incident.

Police in Derry have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the attack, or who may know who was responsible for carrying it out, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Appeal For Witnesses To L'Derry Arson Attack
L'Derry PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses to a fire at a former school site in Drumahoe on Sunday, 3rd March. Police were called to the scene on Drumahoe Road shortly after 9pm.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Man Pleads Guilty To Number Of Sexual Offences Against Children
A 31-year-old man who travelled to Belfast to meet what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, has pleaded guilty to a number of sexual abuse offences against children. Anil Patel pled guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child, arranging the commission of a child sex offence and possessing extreme pornography of children.

NI Fastest Growing UK Region For New Companies
Northern Ireland was the fastest-growing region of the UK for newly registered companies in 2023, according to a new index from Ulster Bank and Beauhurst. The New Startup Index highlights how in 2023 Northern Ireland gained 14,000 new companies, a 59% increase on 2022.
