Teenager remains in Ibiza hospital after shooting

A teenager from County Down is still recovering in hospital after he and a friend were shot while on holiday in Ibiza.

Niall Hamilton, 19, and Gareth Richardson, 18, both from North Down, were caught in the cross-fire of a shooting incident between rival drug gangs, while standing outside a nightclub in San Antonio.

It is understood that during the incident, Niall sustained a gunshot wound to his jaw.

He is reported to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Gareth sustained a flesh wound during the shooting and has since been released from hospital.

A third man, who is understood to come from Liverpool, remains in intensive care after undergoing chest surgery.

Tom Richardson, Gareth's father, said that the injured teenagers who had been on their first holiday abroad were lucky to be alive.

He said: "Gareth was hit on the chest and the bullet came back out again.

"He has an entry wound and an exit wound in his chest.

"He is still in a lot of pain but he is so lucky to be alive, there is no doubt about that."

It is understood that a third friend who was still inside the nightclub when the shooting happened, was uninjured but has been left extremely traumatised.

Spanish police are investigating the incident, and a number of arrests have been made, including British and Moroccan nationals.
