Health service publish spending report
A report providing details of health service spending in Northern Ireland during 2004/05 has today been published.
This is the first time the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) has published the Northern Ireland Health and Personal Social Services (HPSS) expenditure in order to improve the range and quality of information available to the public.
The report is expected to be an annual publication in succeeding years.
A spokesperson for the DHSSPS said: "The Summary of HPSS Expenditure has been introduced to improve accountability and provide greater clarity to political representatives and the general public about how the Department spends the money it receives.
"The Summary of Expenditure helps the Department to answer a number of key questions in relation to how we spend the largest proportion of the total DHSSPS budget. In particular, the summary provides an insight into the key health and social care services commissioned and whether these were from the statutory or independent sector. In addition, it shows the costs required to provide these important services."

DUP Accused Of Blocking Health Service Reform
The DUP's refusal to return to the Assembly and Executive is blocking health service reform, SDLP Health Spokesperson Colin McGrath has said. Mr McGrath said long-overdue reform was being delayed because of the DUP’s boycott of the institutions and that patients would suffer as a result.

NIPSA Brand Hospital Artwork Spending Decision As "Madness"
The health service union NIPSA has hit out at a decision to spend £30m on artwork for Northern Ireland’s hospitals. The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety has announced its intention to spend just under £3 billion on its capital projects over the next 10 years, with one per cent of that capital to be spent on artwork.

The Public Health Agency (PHA) is encouraging community and voluntary organisations across Northern Ireland to apply for its Elevate Mentoring and Grants programme, designed to help tackle health inequalities at a local level. The programme, coordinated by the Community Development and Health Network (CDHN), is now open for applications.
