Government action needed to save Mopak jobs

Following the announcement that jobs at Strabane company Mopak have been placed in the hands of the receiver, West Tyrone Ulster Unionist MLA Derek Hussey has expressed the hope that the cardboard packaging company can be saved and jobs safeguarded.

“We can ill afford to lose jobs in this area and I know that every effort will be made to ensure successful outcome at Mopak," he said.

“I sincerely trust that there will be a renewed drive to improve the bleak outlook on jobs in West Tyrone in general. We cannot continue to sustain the losses which are hitting the economy of this area and causing hardship for those who are forced into unemployment.”

Mr Hussey also called on the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Invest Northern Ireland and other relevant government agencies to do everything in their power to "help the serious unemployment situation in the area".
