Funeral of leading equestrian rider takes place

The funeral of a leading Northern Ireland equestrian rider who was killed during a cross-country event in England over the weekend, has taken place.

Sherelle Duke, 28, from Portadown in County Armagh, died after her horse fell on top of her at an event in Brockenhurst Park near Southampton on Sunday.

The former World Young Rider Champion, who also won a team bronze in that event in 1999 and was a member of the Irish team in the 2003 European Championships, was buried from Portadown Baptist Church in County Armagh earlier today.

The Duke family is highly regarded in the Portadown area, and is best known for setting up the Dukes Transport Company.

For many years, Sherelle rode in the company colours of red and white.
